Regarding the current development status of the entire meat industry, I would like to introduce the development process of the slaughtering and processing industry over the past 8 years. The reason for mentioning 8 years is that since 2013, the slaughtering function has been transferred from the Ministry of Commerce to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In 2013, there were 14,700 pig slaughtering enterprises nationwide, and by the end of 2018, there were 9,476 pig slaughtering enterprises, of which 2,630 were large-scale slaughtering enterprises, accounting for 27.8%; small slaughterhouses accounted for 6,846, accounting for 72.2%. By September 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that there were 5,005 slaughtering enterprises that met the standards after qualification clearance. In 2018, the total slaughter volume of pig slaughtering enterprises nationwide was 345 million heads, a year-on-year increase of 7.81%; in 2019, the total slaughter volume was 271 million heads, a year-on-year decrease of 15.31%. By the first half of 2020, there were still more than 5,200 pig slaughtering enterprises nationwide.
